In the final round of the Virslīga, Latvia’s top tier, FK Grobiņa earned a crucial point that secured their place in the relegation/promotion playoff — a tie they would later win against JDFS Alberts to remain in the league. The home side created numerous chances against FK Auda but ultimately had to settle for a 2–2 draw after scoring a late equaliser. Meanwhile, the visitors fielded a very young squad featuring several intriguing profiles.
FK Grobina, coached by Oskars Klava in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation, made good use of their target man Puzirevskis by using long passes directly from their centre-backs towards him, as in their second goal (87´) when the striker set up his team mate Agapov for a smart finish through Erquiaga´s legs (see image below).
Puzirevskis, who had many chances in this match, scored also the first goal for his team, by a tap-in following an inswinging offensive corner delivered by the left-back Krautmanis. While, the Ukrainian winger Agapov was responsible for kicking the penalty which FK Auda goalkeeper Bite saved after 11 minutes in the match.
Out of possession, they pressed with their striker Puzirevskis splitting the opposition centre-backs before approaching the ball and their offensive midfielder Knapsis locking onto the opposition defensive midfielder Ibrahim Pekegnon Kone (see image below).
FK Auda, coached by Mihails Konevs and set up in a 1-4-3-3 formation, opened the scoring just 20 seconds after kick-off, as midfielder Nguena struck from outside the box. In their build up their inverted wingers occupied the half-spaces, while the full-backs moved high and wide ready to activate as the the ball went through the opposition midfield line (see image below).
They lost the ball in their defensive third at times, conceding dangerous changes against.
Their 2nd goal was a showcase of high level offensive skills by their right winger Camara, who first beat his direct opponent with a feint before shooting with power and precision towards the near bottom corner (20´).
The game ended with two red cards, one for each team and a big brawl which saw both staff members and players involved.
