Denmark won their opening group match against Montenegro (2–1), with the game finely balanced for 76 minutes despite Denmark creating a number of chances. Montenegro offered little going forward and scored from one of their rare entries into the opposition box. Within a well-structured Danish side, several talented players stood out, while Montenegro also showed occasional glimpses of quality within their performance.

Radovan Kavaja’s Montenegro, set up in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation, pressed with a front two, as attacking midfielder Causevic joined striker Vukoje in the first line of pressure. Early in the match, they attempted to close down the opposition’s defensive midfielder through coordinated pressing and cover shadowing (see image below), but with limited success given his significant involvement in the build-up phase.

They equalised in the 38th minute of the first half after a counterattack, making it 1–1. Petar Vujovic delivered an excellent pass to Mark Djokaj, who finished first time with a sliding effort into the far corner (see image below).

Denmark, coached by Morten Corlin in a 1-4-3-3 formation, showed excellent control in possession and a strong ability to progress through the thirds with precise vertical passing and intelligent positioning. Their defensive midfielder, Marvin Nasnas, often acted as the “free man” during the build-up phase, consistently finding space to support play, connect forward passes, and switch the point of attack (see image below). He also frequently dropped between the two centre-backs, creating a 3v2 overload against the opposition’s front two and allowing Denmark to build out more effectively from the back.

They penetrated the opposition’s defensive line and created scoring opportunities by utilizing the ability of Marvin Nasnas and Broberg to find and exploit gaps between defenders (see image below).

They often regained possession immediately after losing the ball by applying effective counter-pressing (see image below).

Here are the players who stood out in this match, with Mikkel Bro Hansen clearly ahead of the others:

Mikkel Bro Hansen (Denmark / FK Bodø/Glimt), striker born 2009.

A mobile striker who is strong when playing with his back to goal, using his body well to protect the ball and link up with teammates. Comfortable turning under pressure to play others in behind the opposition defence, he showed excellent vision and technique with a first-time heel pass to release a teammate. He makes well-timed runs into space behind the defence, often dragging his marker out of position, as seen in the move leading to Denmark’s first goal, where he showed good awareness and composure to finish with his left foot after a deflection. He also times his jumps well in aerial duels and is capable of striking the ball powerfully from distance with his weaker foot, demonstrating coordination and balance.

Mikkel is already showing he is ready for senior football, as demonstrated by the minutes he has played in the opening three matches of the Eliteserien. He has immense potential, and his development suggests a future move to a club in one of Europe’s top five leagues within the next two years is a realistic outcome.

Felix Sommer (Denmark / Randers FC U19), centre-back born 2009.

Felix is an intelligent centre-back with strong playmaking ability, comfortable stepping into midfield with the ball and progressing play through precise passing. Created the first goal with a well-timed long pass behind the opposition defensive line and switched play effectively with accurate long distributions. Positioned himself well to intercept forward passes and dealt with danger calmly, including precise headed clearances. Showed composure and good timing when defending 1v1 situations.

Elias Broberg (Denmark / Bröndby IF U19), offensive midfielder born 2009.

Elias is a technically gifted midfielder with strong awareness and vision. He creates chances through precise through balls and intelligent passing, while remaining calm and composed in possession. His close control allows him to beat pressure and disguise his intentions effectively before releasing the ball. He also times his forward runs well, attacking space behind the opposition when opportunities open up.

Blagoje Uzunovski (Montenegro / FK IMT Belgrad U17), centre-back born 2009.

Blagoje is a tall centre-back who is strong in aerial duels and shows solid defensive ability along with good game reading. He made important defensive interventions to limit the opponent’s attacking opportunities and used well-timed tackles to regain possession effectively.

Nikola Vukoje (Montenegro / OFK Grbalj U17), striker born 2010.

Nikola is a target player with solid physical attributes who can protect the ball well and link play with accurate passes to supporting teammates. Shows good awareness inside the opposition penalty area and is capable of finding quick finishing solutions. Competes well in both aerial and ground duels and offers a reliable physical presence in attack.
