Beşiktaş Capitalise on Home Advantage and Numerical Superiority in Narrow 1–0 Home Win
Beşiktaş had the crowd firmly behind them, with an attendance of 31,471 fans, the majority supporting the home side.
The opening stages were played at a high tempo, with both teams looking to attack any available space in transition. FC Midtjylland started in a 1-3-4-3, showing several tactical ideas that had been evident during their pre-season preparations. Beşiktaş consistently switched the point of attack, drawing FC Midtjylland’s wide midfielders out of position. This created valuable space in front of the defensive line, allowing attacking players to receive between the lines and progress into dangerous areas. The opening goal is an excellent example of this tactical principle in action.
FC Midtjylland corrected their first-half issues after the break by switching to a 1-5-3-1 shape, with both wing-backs dropping into the defensive line to form a compact back five. This adjustment nullified the numerical advantage Beşiktaş had enjoyed in wide areas during the first half and significantly reduced the space between the lines. In possession, Midtjylland focused on direct play, looking to exploit Beşiktaş with long balls and quick counter-attacks. However, Beşiktaş’s rest defence was well organised, allowing them to deal comfortably with these transitions. Despite continuing to dominate possession and showing greater urgency in search of a second goal, Beşiktaş found it increasingly difficult to penetrate Midtjylland’s improved defensive structure and compact shape.

Billing continued his impressive pre-season form with another outstanding performance against Beşiktaş. Despite Midtjylland being reduced to 10 men, he maintained an exceptional work rate, contributing effectively in both defensive and attacking phases. His physicality, endurance, and ability to cover large areas of the pitch were crucial in helping his side remain competitive throughout the match.
One of the standout moments came in the second half when Billing made a powerful deep run through midfield, breaking the Beşiktaş defensive line and creating a clear one-on-one opportunity that nearly resulted in a goal. His composure in possession and ability to dictate the tempo further highlighted his all-around influence on the game.
If he continues this level of performance, Billing will be a key player for Midtjylland this season and is likely to attract renewed interest from clubs looking for a dynamic, physically dominant midfielder.
