Varbergs claimed three important points to move to the top of the table, capitalizing on their set pieces in a 3–1 away win against Helsingborgs. The home side demonstrated their trust in youth by starting three players under the age of 18.

Helsingborgs IF, coached by the Scottish manager Stevie Grieve — previously with SJK Seinäjoki — set up in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation. In their build-up phase, the midfield duo of Amadou and Gigović constantly rotated and dropped to provide central passing options for the defenders against the opposition’s “winger pressure”. Their positional movement created numerical superiority in the first phase and enabled Helsingborg to progress through the centre rather than forcing play wide (see image below).

Their confidence in playing through the thirds was rewarded with the opening goal, which came after a long sequence of short passes that manipulated the opposition’s defensive shape before goalkeeper Brattberg found the free man, Gigović. From there, Helsingborg quickly transformed controlled possession into a more direct attacking phase, exploiting the spaces created by the opponent’s disorganized press.

Varbergs BoIS, coached by Victor Salwén and set up in a 1-4-3-3 formation, adopted a more direct approach, looking to find striker Emil Borgelin — who also played for Vendsyssel FF during the 2024/25 season — behind the opposition’s defensive line or through crosses.

They scored their first goal from an attacking corner through Borgelin, following a dangerous inswinging delivery from Winbo. The goal was facilitated by an effective block on the Helsingborg goalkeeper by Dahlström, which disrupted his movement and created the space for Borgelin to finish from close range (see image below).

Their second goal (51´) came from a long throw-in, with Borgelin heading the ball into the net after it was flicked on by an opponent (see image below).

And finally, they sealed the game with a precise long-range strike from Albin Winbo (87´) into the far bottom corner.

Here the two players who stood out both playing for the home team Helsingborgs: 

Lino Wernberg Hyppänen (Helsingborgs IF), centre-back born 2009.

Composed in 1v1 defending, he consistently slowed down opponents effectively, allowing his teammates time to recover when defending in underloaded situations. He showed good timing in tackles and was well positioned when defending crosses, often clearing the ball confidently with his head. In possession, he remained calm on the ball and switched play effectively with precise long passes. His passing had good pace and accuracy, helping his team progress play efficiently.

Lino appears ready for a move to a Serie A or Bundesliga club, where he could initially develop within the reserve team environment before progressing into the senior squad.

Jonathan Hasselqvist (Helsingborgs IF), right winger born 2008.

A fast winger with strong attacking 1v1 ability due to his agility and quick changes of direction. He attacked the space in behind with well-timed runs, delivering dangerous early crosses and consistently creating chances in the final third. He provided the assist for the first goal with an inswinging cross delivered with his weaker foot, allowing Johansson to head the ball into the back of the net.

Jonathan could be an interesting profile for a mid-table Allsvenskan club before potentially earning a move to the Eredivisie within the next 3–4 years.
