Sogndal IL, coached by Portuguese manager Luís Pimenta, operated in a 4-4-2 formation. Egersunds IK started the game strongly and took an early lead through Martin Håheim-Elveseter, putting the visitors 1–0 ahead.
Sogndal IL responded well and equalised in the 20th minute. The goal came from exploiting gaps in the opposition defensive shape, with a precise pass from striker Oliver Hintsa finding teammate Sebastian Pedersen, making it 1–1 (see video below).
Momentum shifted as Sogndal IL increased pressure through wide areas, consistently overloading the box and attacking crosses from advanced full-backs. This led to the second goal in the 29th minute: left-back Atli Barkarson delivered a high cross to Sebastian Pedersen, whose header hit the post before the rebound was converted by Finnish winger Tuomas Pippola (see video below).
Egersunds IK stayed in the game through possession phases and build-up organisation, playing in a 4-4-2 formation. In particular, Chris Sleveland dropped into space behind the front two to help progression, either receiving under less pressure or drawing the opposition midfield higher to open passing lanes (see video below).
Their right winger Jan Inge Lynum attacked the space in behind well from the half-space, often forcing the opposition centre-back to step out and disrupt the defensive shape. This movement led to their second goal, bringing the score to 3–2 and giving them hope of a comeback (see video below).
The score remained unchanged until the final minutes, when the young Finnish striker Onni Helén, who had come on as a substitute, scored to seal a 4–2 victory for Sogndal.

Sander Granheim (Sogndal IL), left centre-back born 2007.
Sander is a tactically aware centre-back, strong in physical duels. He is able to push out to cover the full-back and stop crosses, showing good discipline and focus throughout. He deals well with crosses, often intercepting them with his head. In possession, he shows composure under pressure and can play out to the central midfielders to progress the ball.
In the short term, he would suit a mid-table Danish 1st Division side or a top team in the Superettan, before potentially stepping up to the Eliteserien or Allsvenskan.
Lukass Vapne (Sogndal IL), central midfielder born 2003.
Lukass is a tall central midfielder with good physicality and strong ball-striking ability. He demonstrated his shooting threat from a direct free-kick, which forced a save as the goalkeeper tipped the effort away from the top corner. He also shows good passing accuracy and vision, capable of switching play with precise long passes.
Defensively, he is strong in aerial duels, times his tackles well, and can intercept forward passes by reading the game and disguising his intentions.
In the short term, he could suit a bottom-six Danish Superliga side, with potential in the longer term to develop into a low- to mid-table Serie A profile.
Tuomas Pippola (Sogndal IL), right winger born 2004.
Tuomas is a tall winger with a strong aerial presence, making him a threat when attacking crosses. Timed his runs into the space behind the defensive line well, particularly in the first half, and consistently looked to stretch the back line. Showed good agility and balance in 1v1 situations, using quick feet and changes of direction to unbalance his direct opponent.
Tuomas profiles as a player capable of competing for mid-table teams in the Allsvenskan and Eliteserien. His physical attributes, attacking movement, and 1v1 ability provide a solid foundation to contribute at that level, with the potential to develop further in the right environment.
Onni Helén (Sogndal IL), striker born 2006.
Onni came on for the final 25 minutes and made a strong impact as a target striker. He caused problems for the opposition defenders with his physical presence and work rate. Strong with his back to goal, he protected the ball well and won both aerial and physical duels. He scored the final goal in stoppage time with a composed finish from close range.
Onni is an interesting profile for English Championship clubs to monitor. A move to a top team in the Danish 1st Division could be the right next step before progressing to that level.
Martin Håheim-Elveseter (Egersunds IK), left winger born 2005.
Martin is a right-footed inverted winger who scored an outstanding goal, turning with the sole of his foot inside the penalty box to escape pressure before finishing into the far bottom corner through the opponent’s legs. He is also capable of receiving between the lines and linking play, providing teammates with precise through balls.
He looks ready to step up to a low- to mid-table Eliteserien side, with a potential pathway towards a mid-table Eredivisie or Belgian Pro League club.
Phillip Hovland (Egersunds IK), left-back born 2006.
Phillip is a quick left-footed full-back with good playmaking ability and strong ball-striking skills. He delivered dangerous crosses from both open play and set pieces and was also responsible for his team’s direct free-kicks. He made well-timed attacking runs into the penalty box but missed a good chance in the second half, finishing with his right foot from a cross.
He is an interesting profile for low- to mid-table teams in the Allsvenskan. If he improves his physical attributes, he could develop into a top-three option in the league, with a potential future move to a higher-level international league, such as a mid- to top-table club in the Turkish Süper Lig.
