Tactical Analysis
Odd, coached by Per Frandsen, lined up in a 1-4-3-3 formation. Their game plan was based on a direct attacking approach, frequently bypassing the build-up phase with long balls into the channels and behind Haugesund’s defensive line. In possession, they overloaded the central midfield area to create numerical superiority and exploit the spaces between the opposition’s midfield and defensive lines.
Out of possession, Odd pressed aggressively in the middle third, looking to recover possession quickly and launch fast attacks. Despite their improved offensive performance, individual defensive errors proved costly. Captain Hans Bonnesen (2001) was involved in two decisive moments: he lost track of his direct opponent for Haugesund’s second goal and later misplaced a pass that led directly to the third goal. Although Odd managed to pull one goal back, those defensive mistakes ultimately prevented them from completing a comeback, as Haugesund secured a deserved 3–1 victory.
