Egersund suffered a heavy home defeat to Strømsgodset in the OBOS-ligaen on 31 May 2026. Strømsgodset led 2–0 at half-time before adding three more goals after the break to secure a dominant 5–0 victory and strengthen their position at the top of the table.
Marius Kjørvik Johansen is a young Norwegian coach who became head coach of Egersund in April 2026. For this match, he set his team up in a 1-4-3-3 structure in possession(see image below), aiming to build attacks through wide areas and maintain numerical superiority in midfield. Out of possession, Egersund shifted into a compact 1-5-3-2 shape (see image below), with the wing-backs dropping deeper to provide defensive solidity and protect the central areas against Strømsgodset’s attacking threats.

The team maintained its structure well until conceding the second goal. Following that setback, several individual errors appeared in both defensive and midfield zones, creating significant spaces for the opposition to exploit. In an effort to become more aggressive offensively, the team lost its defensive balance, which resulted in conceding three additional goals after the break. The goalkeeper prevented an even heavier defeat with a number of crucial saves, keeping the final score at 5–0. The team’s strategy to neutralize the opposition’s attacking threat did not work as intended. Defensive organization was undermined by several individual errors, which created spaces and opportunities for the opponents to exploit.
On the other side, Magne Hoseth (Strømsgodset) demonstrated the value of his greater coaching experience. Having previously managed teams in the Norwegian top division, he showed strong tactical preparation and game management, helping his team control the match and capitalize on the opposition’s weaknesses. The team lined up in a 1-4-4-1-1 structure (see image below), placing particular emphasis on its attacking players. The attacking trio benefited from the constant support of the overlapping full-backs, whose forward runs provided width, stretched the opposition’s defensive line, and contributed significantly to the team’s attacking play.
The team’s high pressing was a crucial aspect of its performance. By applying intense pressure on the opposition during the build-up phase, they disrupted the opponent’s ability to play out from the back, forcing defenders into long balls and unforced mistakes. This approach allowed the team to regain possession in advanced areas and maintain pressure throughout the match (see image below).

The technically gifted player who demonstrates excellent ball control, clean first touch, and dribbling abilities. The player showcased his technical quality and confidence by attempting two bicycle kicks, both narrowly missing the target. His willingness to execute such difficult techniques underlined his creativity and attacking instinct in and around the penalty area. An important attacking threat throughout the match. He assisted his team’s second goal with a well-executed action and consistently caused problems for the opposition defense through his movement, technical quality, and involvement in attacking phases.
Victor Dedes (Strømsgodset), left back, born 2003.
Operated as an attacking left-back, providing constant support in the offensive phase through his overlapping runs and ability to deliver quality balls into the penalty area. Comfortable in possession and technically secure, he contributed to his team’s attacking play while also showing the energy to recover defensively. He excels in delivering accurate crosses from wide areas. His ability to pick out teammates in the penalty box makes him a consistent attacking threat and a valuable source of chance creation for his team. He provided an assist with a well-delivered cross and created another dangerous opportunity with a precise ball into the penalty area that came close to being converted into a goal.
Sebastian Pingel (Strømsgodset), striker, born 1993.
An experienced player who used his positioning and game intelligence effectively, Sebastian Pingel operated as the focal point of the attack and proved to be a constant threat to the opposition’s defense. He used his physical presence well to hold up play, link with teammates, and occupy central defenders. His movement inside the penalty area and ability to attack crosses made him a dangerous target throughout the match. By scoring two goals, he once again demonstrated his excellent finishing qualities and natural goalscoring instinct, showing why he remains a highly effective attacking player.
