As Aalesunds FK defeated Bryne FK in the Eliteserien promotion/relegation play-offs by the aggregate score of 4-1, the Tangotrøyene (the “Tangoshirts”, nickname of AaFK) will return to the highest tier of the Norwegian club football pyramid in 2026.
Here you can read our analysis about the 2025 1. divisjon Promotion play-off (Third round) game between Kongsvinger IL and Aalesunds FK (which ended 4-5 after extra-time) or here about the Aalesunds FK vs Odds BK encounter from Matchday 12, but in this article, we would like to highlight one of the most promising and interesting players of AaFK.
Henrik Melland (2005) is an Ålesund born midfielder, who is in the senior squad since 2020. In season 2025, he played all 34 league games for AaFK (30 matches in the regular season plus all possible 4 clashes in the play-offs), scored 11 goals and made 5 assists. Definitely one of the key players in his team’s campaign.

He is a tall player, who possesses adequate physical attributes, and uses them in various physical activities properly. Versatile in the midfield — a perfect fit for the Box-to-box midfielder role, but also can play as Number 6 (Deep-lying playmaker) and Number 10 comfortably. His decisions and moves show great awareness; the creativity mixed to his great vision and playmaking skills also should be mentioned. Communicates and frequently tries to control of his teammates — he’s definitely a potential leader for the future. Positions himself in the entire midfield area excellently; an initiative player, who demonstrates outstanding presence and movements both on and off the ball. Strong in dribbling, and has the right abilities to make useful forward runs to break the opposition lines.

Henrik represented his country Norway at the youth levels of U16, U17, U18 and U20. Despite he played in some U20 international friendly games before the FIFA U20 World Cup held between 2025 September and October, he wasn’t selected for the tournament squad at the end — but this doesn’t mean that we won’t see him anymore in Norway’s shirt at some level, as his potential indicates bright future for him.
Can be described as a high potential player with exceptional talent, who worth following in the Eliteserien season 2026 — only if AaFK can keep him, as ScoutMania‘s prediction is, that he will be an interesting profile mainly for Scandinavian top teams and Western European teams in the forthcoming winter transfer market.
