FC Nõmme United U21 snatched a late point against FC Flora Tallinn U21, with the match ending 1–1 despite the visitors dominating for long periods. FC Flora U21 also boasted the stronger individual talent, with several of the club’s top prospects on display.
FC Nõmme United U21, coached by Eero Maling, lined up in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation and built up with a double pivot while keeping the full-backs in deeper positions (see video below). In the opening minutes, they lost the ball several times in dangerous areas, giving the opposition chances to attack.
During the early build-up phase, they often played the ball out wide before looking to play long passes forward. These passes were mainly aimed at striker Kert Tomingas, who made runs behind the opposition’s defensive line and created dangerous situations.
FC Flora Tallinn U21, coached by Ats Sillaste, lined up in a 1-4-3-3 formation and took the lead after just nine minutes through Eerik Paltser’s penalty, awarded after a well-executed positional attack in which right-back Patrick Pihlak exploited the space between the opposition’s left-back and left centre-back, forcing the latter to foul him inside the penalty area.
They created a big chance in the second half through combination play, completing two quick one-two combinations involving, once again, their right-back, Pihlak (see video below).
FC Nõmme United U21 equalized in the 88th minute with a superb strike from outside the penalty area after adopting a more direct approach in the closing stages of the match.
Standout Players throughout the Match:
Kert Tomingas (FC Nõmme United U21), striker born 2009.
Kert is a mobile forward with intelligent off-the-ball movement to exploit space in behind and find dangerous positions in the box. He is explosive in 1v1 situations and scored a superb goal with a powerful curled strike into the top far corner from outside the penalty area.
With five goals in 14 Esiliiga appearances, Kert would benefit from first-team minutes in the second half of the season. Long term, he has the potential to develop into an attacking winger capable of earning a move to a lower- or mid-table Ekstraklasa club.
Eerik Paltser (FC Flora Tallinn U21), offensive midfielder born 2008.
Eerik is a tall attacking midfielder with a strong physical profile, good vision, and composure. He calmly converted a penalty to put his team ahead and showed good awareness when receiving in tight spaces. He carried the ball effectively to exploit space, delivered dangerous crosses from both open play and set pieces, and made well-timed runs into the box. He also displayed solid shooting technique with a powerful half-volley that forced a late save from the goalkeeper.
Eerik is an interesting profile who could suit a low- to mid-table club in Superettan or the OBOS-ligaen. With further development, he has the potential to reach the Allsvenskan or the Eredivisie.
Denis Zotov (FC Flora Tallinn U21), left winger born 2011.
Denis is a quick inverted winger who excels in attacking 1v1 situations. He produced a moment of outstanding technique by beating two opponents with a Zidane turn and showed intelligent movement to receive both between the lines and in behind the defence, although one first-half run was flagged offside. While he occasionally forced play with rushed through balls, he also created a clear chance with a perfectly weighted pass. He played with confidence and flair, showcasing backheel and rabona passes.
Denis should soon be ready for first-team opportunities at Flora. In the long term, he has the potential to progress to a mid-table Primeira Liga club before earning a move to a lower-table Serie A side or a top Serie B club.
Jaron Silm (FC Flora Tallinn U21), central midfielder born 2009.
Jaron is a deep-lying playmaker with excellent vision and passing range. He consistently found teammates over long distances, linked play through intelligent supporting angles, and dictated possession from deep. Defensively, he pressed aggressively, timed his tackles well, and protected the space in front of the back four with strong positioning, regularly intercepting crosses.
Jaron would be an excellent fit for a U19 side in Denmark or Italy. In the long term, he has the potential to develop into a top-six Superliga midfielder before earning a move to a mid-table Serie A club.
