Drama Until the Last Second: Sandefjord Strike in the 98th Minute to Secure 1–1 Draw in high intensity battle.

They opened the game with a clear intention to progress mainly through the wings, looking to deliver crosses into the penalty area and stretch Rosenborg’s compact defensive block. Rosenborg’s midfield congestion forced Sandefjord to circulate possession wide and rely on longer deliveries toward advanced areas.
Defensively, Sandefjord adopted an aggressive approach without sustained pressure in the mid-block, but instead executed a well-organized high press that disrupted Rosenborg’s build-up phases. This proactive pressing scheme led to multiple ball recoveries in advanced zones (see image below).
In transition moments, Sandefjord’s structure allowed them to sustain areal control, and despite Rosenborg attempting to counter through wing speed, Sandefjord remained compact. A key defensive moment arrived in the 22nd minute, with an important save from Syrian international goalkeeper Elias Hadaya, preventing Rosenborg from capitalizing on a transition opportunity.
During the final fifteen minutes, Sandefjord increased their attacking intensity, maintaining prolonged pressure around Rosenborg’s penalty area. The sustained areal dominance ultimately resulted in a dramatic equalizing goal, reflecting the effectiveness of their pressing and wide oriented attacking strategy.

Rosenborg approached the match with a compact central defensive structure, prioritizing midfield density to limit Sandefjord’s progression through interior channels. This tactical choice successfully redirected Sandefjord toward wide zones and encouraged the use of long balls as a primary progression method.
Without the ball, RBK largely refrained from applying pressure until the middle third, allowing Sandefjord to circulate possession in deeper areas. Their main offensive threat emerged through transition phases, where they attempted to exploit wing speed (see image below).
However, Rosenborg struggled to maintain possession under Sandefjord’s high press, losing numerous balls in build-up situations. The pressure intensified as the match progressed, forcing Rosenborg into deeper defensive positioning and reducing their attacking output.
In the closing stages, Rosenborg were pinned back inside their defensive third, facing continuous pressure that eventually led to conceding the equalizer (1-1). The final phase highlighted the team’s difficulties in coping with aggressive pressing and sustaining ball retention under high intensity defensive pressure.

Volden stood out with a composed and mature display as centre-back. His positioning and recovery speed allowed him to control defensive situations comfortably, while his confidence in possession made him a reliable option in build-up phases. Standing at 1.95m, he offered strong physical presence and wasn’t afraid of to step forward and progress play. Aside from a single mistake, Volden delivered an excellent performance, showcasing impressive game reading and maturity well beyond his age.
