The opening exchanges were played at a high tempo with both teams looking to attack vertically. Rather than building sustained possession, each side attempted to progress quickly through long passes behind the defensive line or into isolated wide players.
KR Reykjavík opened the scoring in the 10th minute following an attacking set piece. After a quick restart that caused confusion in the Keflavík defense, Arnór Ingvi Traustason reacted quickest to the ball, capitalizing on a goalkeeping error from Keflavík to give the visitors an early 1-0 advantage.
Keflavík responded immediately with defender #5 David Helgi Aronsson driving forward from the back line, breaking multiple defensive lines through an aggressive dribble before releasing the ball wide. #11 Muhamed Algül collected the pass and struck an excellent effort from outside the penalty area into the bottom corner to level the score.
As the half progressed, KR Reykjavík continued attempting to build through the thirds using their 1-3-1-4-2 structure. Their objective was to overload wide areas before either combining through the overload or switching the point of attack to isolate players in 1v1 situations on the weak side. Keflavík looked to exploit those moments by committing numbers forward early in attacks. Their wingers frequently drove inside from wide positions, creating rotations that opened space for overlapping support and central runners. Despite both teams showing positive attacking intent, neither side established prolonged control of possession. The remainder of the half was defined by frequent turnovers and transition moments concentrated in the middle third.
Keflavík regained the lead in the 51st minute from an attacking corner. Following the first contact from #6 Sindri Magnússon, midfielder #14 Marin Mudrazija reacted quickest inside the penalty area to finish from close range and make it 2-1.
KR Reykjavík responded in the 55th minutes with a well-delivered early cross from #23 Arnór Ingvi Traustason found striker #9 Eidur Sæbjörnsson, whose diving header made the match 2-2 .
Keflavík continued targeting isolated wide players through direct long passes, while KR Reykjavík persisted with their possession-based approach, attempting to build through wide overloads before breaking behind the Keflavík defensive line.
Following substitutions from both benches, the contest became increasingly transitional. Most regains occurred in the middle third, leading to rapid attacks in both directions with little opportunity for either team to establish sustained possession.
Momentum gradually shifted toward Keflavík entering the final fifteen minutes. The home side began applying sustained pressure, forcing KR into long periods of emergency defending inside their own half.
After receiving possession near midfield in the 89th minute, Keflavík attacker #21 Alpha Conteh drove directly at the KR defense, eliminating two defenders before releasing teammate #23 Eidur Ragnarsson into space. The initial effort was not fully cleared, allowing the rebound to fall kindly for Keflavík’s #21 Alpha Conteh, who reacted quickest to the second ball and finished emphatically into the top corner to complete the comeback.
Standout Player throughout the Match:
David Helgi Aronsson (Keflavík #5) — 2007 born center back playing for Keflavík’s first team. Previously competing with Víkingur U19’s, Víkingur’s first team and Njardvík’s first team before joining Keflavík in the 2025/2026 season. Domestically Aronsson tallied 935’ minutes across 11 matches so far this season while internationally he has not been called back into Iceland’s U19 squad since November 2025 where he previously represented his country from U16 through to U19. He is currently represented by CAA Stellar.
Aronsson demonstrating a well-rounded profile as a left-footed central defender comfortable in both defensive and possession phases. His greatest strength are his willingness and ability to drive forward with the ball, breaking opposition lines through progressive carries and initiating attacks from deep areas. Defensively, he showed good positional awareness, consistently placing himself well to block shots and intercept dangerous passes as well as judging the flight of aerial balls effectively, displayed solid timing when making first contact on headers. His composure facing his own goal, medium-to-long passing range, technical security under pressure, and confidence progressing the ball showcased his ability throughout the match.
