Þór Akureyri emerged from halftime with renewed energy and immediately shifted the momentum of the match. Much of their attacking play developed down the right-hand side, where positive forward movements and sustained spells of possession began placing increased pressure on the KA Akureyri’s defensive unit.
By the hour mark, Þór Akureyri had established their best period of the match. Their ability to consistently win first and second balls allowed them to sustain attacks and prevent KA from building comfortably out of the defensive third. KA Akureyri responded by introducing fresh legs in midfield during the 63rd minute in an effort to regain control of possession.
The final twenty minutes became increasingly open, with both sides exchanging attacks in rapid succession. Long balls, physical duels, and repeated battles for first and second contact became defining features of the contest as each team searched for a winning goal. Both teams committed players forward in search of a decisive moment. Ultimately, both defensive units held firm. KA Akureyri were unable to convert their first-half dominance into goals, while Þór’s Akureyri improved second-half display lacked the final quality needed to capitalize on their momentum.

His ability to contribute on both sides of the ball made him one of KA’s most complete and influential performers in the derby.
Einar Halldórsson (#8) – Þór Akureyri (born 2008)
Einar Halldórsson was one of Þór Akureyri’s most influential attacking players, consistently demonstrating composure and confidence when in possession. The right-footed midfielder showed a positive mentality by looking to play forward whenever opportunities arose, even while under immediate pressure. Comfortable in 1v1 situations, Halldórsson possessed the technical ability to retain possession in tight spaces before progressing attacks through his dribbling or passing. He frequently combined with teammates in wide areas, using quick combination play to create attacking opportunities before providing service into the penalty area. His willingness to initiate attacks rather than recycle possession made him a key creative outlet throughout the match. This was evident with a powerful forward run showcasing his ability to carry the ball through pressure and drive Þór’s attacks.
