Fram Reykjavik emerge with a dramatic 4-3 victory over KA Akureyri in a match that featured seven goals, multiple momentum swings, and relentless attacking play from both sides. While KA Akureyri controlled significant periods of possession and territory, Fram Reykjavik’s efficiency in transition moments and ability to capitalize on key opportunities ultimately proved decisive.
KA Akureyri lined up in a 4-2-3-1 system and looked to dominate possession through structured build-up and progression through the thirds. Fram Reykjavik operated from a 3-5-2 shape that emphasized compact defending, aggressive counterattacking, and exploiting wide areas whenever opportunities arose.
Fram Reykjavik created the first attacking opportunity of the match within the opening minutes, delivering a dangerous ball across the face of goal that immediately tested the KA Akureyri defense.
In the 6th minute a well-delivered attacking corner found Fram Reykjavik’s #3 Þorri Stefán Þorbjörnsson unmarked near the six-yard box, allowing him to guide the header into the bottom corner and give Fram Reykjavik an early 1-0 lead.
KA Akureyri responded aggressively beginning to target space behind Fram Reykjavik’s back line through direct passes and looked to create attacking opportunities from second-ball recoveries in central areas.
The equalizer arrived in the eighth minute after KA Akureyri successfully pressed forcing a turnover by Fram Reykjavik defender #3 Þorbjörnsson while attempting to dribble out of back, leveling the score at 1-1.
Momentum quickly shifted toward the home side as KA Akureyri. Their ability to progress through midfield and sustain attacks forced Fram Reykjavik into long defensive spells. The pressure eventually resulted in a second goal in the 16th minute with a deep cross into the penalty area where KA Akureyri reacted quickest to the second ball, with striker #9 Sveinn Hauksson finishing to put the hosts ahead 2-1.
Fram Reykjavik found their route back into the match in the 32nd minute. Following a rapid counterattack, midfielder #25 Freyr Sigurosson was fouled inside the penalty area. Fram Reykjavik striker #17 Alti Thór Jónasson stepped up and calmly converted the resulting penalty kick to make the score 2-2.
KA Akureyri nearly regained the lead shortly afterward when a superb direct free-kick effort forced an excellent save from the Fram Reykjavik goalkeeper.
Fram Reykjavik’s third goal highlighted their attacking principles perfectly. In the 41st minute, Fram Reykjavik successfully built through multiple lines before switching the point of attack to an overloaded weak side. The movement created space behind the KA Akureyri defense, allowing a dangerous service into the penalty area that was converted to restore Fram Reykjavik’s advantage heading into halftime.
The opening stages of the second half were significantly more physical. Multiple fouls and duels disrupted the rhythm of the game, with much of the play concentrated in the middle third.
Just three minutes later, Fram Reykjavik extended their lead. After regaining possession in the right-central channel of the middle third, they transitioned quickly through the KA Akureyri defense and delivered a dangerous ball into the penalty area, resulting in a 4-2 advantage.
Fram Reykjavik remained on the front foot and continued creating opportunities through crosses and deliveries from wide areas. Whenever KA Akureyri attempted to establish longer possession sequences, Fram Reykjavik’s press frequently forced turnovers and prevented sustained attacks from developing.
Following a Fram Reykjavik attacking corner, KA Akureyri launched a rapid counterattack that caught the visitors committed forward. The transition resulted in a goal that reduced the deficit to 4-3 and immediately changed the atmosphere of the match.
The late goal injected new life into the contest. Both teams became increasingly direct and aggressive, producing a series of end-to-end attacks as the clock wound down.

Þorri Stefán þorbjörnsson (Fram Reykjavik #3) — 2006 born center back playing for Fram Reykjavik’s first team. Having an extensive youth career with FH U19s, Lyngby BK U19s and Fram Reykjavik across four years before rejoining Fram Reykjavik’s first team in the 2024/2025 season. Domestically across 11 matches þorbjörnsson has played 886’ minutes and scored three goals while internationally he is on the Iceland U21 squad. He is represented by Elite Consulting based out of Denmark.
Despite being involved in the turnover that led to KA Akureyri’s first goal, Þorbjörnsson produced a strong overall performance. The left-footed center back demonstrated composure in possession throughout the match and consistently showed confidence receiving the ball under pressure. His technical execution when clearing danger was above average, often turning defensive situations into controlled possession. He displayed excellent passing range, particularly with progressive left-footed distribution, and closed space aggressively when stepping out to press opponents. His comfort operating in tight spaces and ability to break lines with passing make him an intriguing profile within a back three.
Freyr Sigurosson (Fram Reykjavik #25) — 2005 born central midfielder who plays first team football with Fram Reykjavik. Coming up through Fram’s U19 squad as well as Sindri’s first team before joining Fram Reykjavik’s first team in the 2023/2024 season. Domestically Sigurosson has played 10 matches where he scored two goals and assisted two goals across 516’ minutes while internationally he is a member of the Iceland U21 squad.
One of the standout performers on the pitch, Sigurosson played with a clear forward-first mentality whenever receiving possession. His ability to turn quickly and immediately attack space helped drive Fram Reykjavik’s transitional threat throughout the match. Defensively, he tracked runners well and competed strongly in both aerial and ground duels. His dynamic movement patterns, acceleration, and change of direction repeatedly created problems for KA Akureyri’s midfield. In possession, he showed composure under pressure, regularly driving forward with the ball while using his body effectively to shield challenges. His forward runs beyond the front line, technical quality in tight spaces, and ability to dictate tempo made him one of the most influential players in the contest.
