In a match full of turnovers and chances for both sides, played in heavy rain and strong wind, the impact of the substitutions proved decisive in FH Hafnarfjörður’s victory. Both teams showcased talented young players, but the game was ultimately decided by a 2007-born player who scored both goals in the 2–0 win over Valur and put himself firmly in the spotlight.
FH Hafnarfjörður, coached by the former AB (Danish 2nd Division, now 1st Division) manager and Iceland national team assistant manager, lined up in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation, with left-back Baldur Kári Helgason frequently inverting into central areas while left winger Kjartan Kári Halldórsson dropped wide to provide width (see video below).
FH Hafnarfjörður created several goalscoring opportunities during the first half, primarily through attacks down their left flank. Striker Úlfur Ágúst Björnsson provided a consistent aerial threat, winning the majority of his duels on both set pieces and crosses into the penalty area (see video below).
Valur Reykjavík, coached by Hermann Hreiðarsson, lined up in a 1-3-4-3 formation. On goal-kicks, the goalkeeper stood to the right of the central centre-back and regularly played long balls towards right winger Jónatan Ingi Jónsson, despite his height disadvantage against opposition left centre-back Grétar Snær Gunnarsson. Valur then looked to win the second ball and attack from there, as shown in the example below, where the resulting goal was disallowed for offside (see video below).
They created several clear-cut chances in the second half to take the lead. Their right wing-back, Ingimar Torbjörnsson Stöle, was their primary attacking outlet, using his pace and stamina to repeatedly reach dangerous crossing positions. One such run led to a high-quality chance for Jónatan Ingi Jónsson in the 57th minute (see video below).
The substitutions, particularly the introduction of Gils Gíslason and Kristján Flóki Finnbogason, played a crucial role in shifting the momentum in favour of FH Hafnarfjörður. While the away side made no changes, the home team injected fresh attacking energy with their substitutions. Gíslason scored both goals, with the second coming from an assist by Finnbogason, highlighting the immediate impact of the two substitutes (see video below).

Róbert Hugi Saevarsson (FH Hafnarfjördur), central midfielder born 2010.
Róbert is a tall defensive midfielder with a strong physical presence. He closes down opponents quickly, is composed in the tackle, and consistently wins duels. He also contributed in possession by supporting attacks and showed good vision with well-weighted progressive passes that broke opposition lines. Offensively, he had one effort that sailed over the crossbar. On the downside, he occasionally lost possession unnecessarily in congested areas.
Róbert would be a strong fit for a Danish 1st Division club such as Kolding, where physicality and intensity are key attributes. Given his physical profile and developmental trajectory, he has the long-term potential to progress to the English Championship.
Úlfur Ágúst Björnsson (FH Hafnarfjördur), striker born 2003.
Úlfur is a target forward with a strong physical profile. He is effective in aerial duels and shows good ability to protect the ball when receiving with his back to goal. He created two strong headed opportunities, forcing the goalkeeper into two important saves, which highlighted his excellent timing and coordination in the box. An area for improvement is his ball striking, where greater consistency and technical refinement would add another dimension to his attacking game.
Úlfur fits the profile of a striker who could succeed at a top Superettan or OBOS-ligaen club, where his physical qualities and ability to compete in duels would be valuable assets. If he can consistently produce goals at that level, he could earn a move to a higher level, potentially towards a league such as the English League One.
Gils Gíslason (FH Hafnarfjördur), left winger born 2007.
Gils is a fast inverted winger with excellent explosiveness and 1v1 ability. He made an immediate impact after coming on, creating a big chance for Kjartan Kári Halldórsson and scoring two goals. His first goal showed confidence and precision as he capitalised on an opponent’s mistake and chipped the goalkeeper. The second highlighted his power, balance, and composure, as he beat his marker, carried the ball at speed, and finished accurately into the far corner.
He is dangerous when attacking defenders directly, using sharp changes of direction and acceleration to create separation. He also showed strong work rate, tracking opponents and competing well in physical duels.
Gils would be a strong fit for a club such as Bodø/Glimt in Norway, with the potential to develop towards a move to a mid-table French Ligue 1 side.
Ingimar Torbjörnsson Stöle (Valur Reykjavík), right wingback born 2004.
Ingimar is a wing-back with strong running capacity, good speed, and solid defensive qualities. He shows good positioning to intercept forward passes and is difficult to beat in 1v1 situations. He supports the attack effectively through well-timed off-ball runs and created two big chances in the second half by consistently reaching dangerous crossing areas. However, he made an error in possession that led directly to the opponent’s first goal.
Ingimar is a good profile for a top-six Danish 1st Division club, where he could adapt to the demands of Danish football. With further development, he has the potential to become a low- to mid-table Danish Superliga player.
