Two teams with contrasting styles met in a crucial Round 29 clash in the 1st Division. After falling 2–0 behind, Hobro fought back to secure an entertaining 3–3 draw in a match full of chances and momentum swings. Hobro remain four points clear of B93 in the relegation battle.
Hobro IK, coached by the previous VSK Aarhus manager Jens Gjesing, played in a 1-3-4-3 formation in possession. They played often direct with early long passes from their centre-backs to their striker Huldahl, after creating space for him with opposite movements with their wingers who attracted the nearest defender (as in the image below).
Out of possession they high pressed with a man-marking approach forcing the opposition into ball losses, as in the first two goals scored.
An important part of their game was their offensive set pieces (Hyltoft´s long throw-ins and their short combinations on corners and free-kicks) which helped them adding pressure onto the opponents defense in different periods of the match.
Boldklubben af 1893, coached by the former Bröndby IF player Kasper Lorentzen, who was previously B93 assistant manager under Kim Engstrøm, played in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation in a more possession-based style.
In their early build up phases both central midfielders dropped in low positions to link up and to invite the pressure with the objective of isolating their fast forwards against the opposition defenders (see image below).
When they succeeded their were quick in attacking the opposition box with precise crosses which led them to chances (as in the moment below).
Out of possession they matched the opposition wingbacks with their full-backs with the intention of applying pressure on the sides.
Here the two players who stood out in this match:
Gustav Bjerge (Hobro IK, on loan from FC Midtjylland), centre-back born 2006.
Disciplined and focused centre-back with good positioning and anticipation skills. He limited the opposition striker´s involvement by marking him closely and by winning his duels. He cleared the box from danger by intercepting dangerous crosses in the air. He should have been more controlled in the tackle that costed his team a penalty in the second half.
Gustav would benefit from one more season in 1. Division before targeting a spot in the FC Midtjylland Superliga squad.
Adam Ahmad (B93), right winger born 2003.
Fast offensive winger, strong in attacking 1v1. Adam used his speed on the right side to deliver dangerous crosses into the penalty box. In the second half he played on the left flank as inverted winger showing the ability to receive in tight areas and to combine with his team mates. B93 third goal, which was scored on penalty, came from his initiative in entering the box and challenging his opponents with his unpredictable and quick movements with the ball.
Adam is ready for a move in Allsvenskan or Eliteserien bottom to mid-table teams. His confidence and offensive contribution could benefit many teams which prioritize playing with wingers who possess speed and flair.
